If we’re going to stop fracking and pipelines, we need future-thinking energy policy.
Tom Gilbert of ReThink Energy NJ joins us to discuss how his organization informs and empowers citizens and decision-makers to support sensible policies to bring about a swift transition to clean, efficient, renewable energy. They advocate reducing the use of dirty fossil fuels and stopping unnecessary pipelines that threaten our land, air, water, health, and safety.
Tom has served since June 2015 as Campaign Director for Energy, Climate and Natural Resources at New Jersey Conservation Foundation (NJCF) and directs the statewide Rethink Energy NJ campaign, which informs the public and decision-makers regarding the need for a rapid transition to clean, renewable sources of energy, and reduced use of fossil fuels and unnecessary pipelines and their infrastructure. He directs a comprehensive campaign to address the threats posed by energy infrastructure to New Jersey’s preserved lands and natural resources, and provides leadership to a multi-faceted team working on advocacy, outreach, communications, research and legal strategies. Previously, he served as Senior Conservation Finance Director with the Trust for Public Land; as Chairman of the NJ Keep It Green Coalition; and led successful campaigns to secure approval of a $400 million bond measure and constitutional amendment to provide a stable source of land preservation funding. Tom also co-directed national field efforts of the Land & Water Conservation Fund Coalition, helping secure House passage of legislation to safeguard natural areas, water resources, cultural heritage, and provide recreational opportunities to all Americans. Tom also served as Director of Eastern Forest Conservation for the Wilderness Society, and Executive Director of the NY/NJ/PA/CT Highlands Coalition, where he led successful campaigns to protect critical lands and waters in the Highlands region, with the passage of both federal and New Jersey state legislation. He was a founding board member of the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters. Tom earned his Bachelor’s degree in History and Economics from the University of Vermont, where he also earned an M.S. in Natural Resources Planning.
